Just a couple of points following on from the HIFU User Group meeting at BAUS Oncology:
1) Tim Dudderidge mentioned that we do not as yet have a common protocol for follow-up of patients who have had focal or whole gland HIFU therapy.
In this regard Iqbal Shergill (Consultant Urology who has started focal HIFU in Wrexham) has volunteered to design and disseminate a questionnaire to UK focal therapists concerning their individual follow-up practices and suggested preferences after salvage / primary and whole gland / focal prostate cancer treatment. Iqbal will then collate this data and send a summary to all of us. We could then discuss and draw up national guidelines which would be published on behalf of our society.
2) Our institution has published a relevant paper in European Urology related to determining the proportion of men with localised prostate cancer who are suitable for a tissue preserving approach using template transperineal biopsies as a tool to localise individual cancer lesions – I have attached this paper. I would encourage you all to disseminate any interesting papers in the field and these articles will be included in our user group website at:https://hifuusergroup.org/
