I am delighted that the inaugural HIFU User Group meeting at BAUS Oncology was a resounding success. Many units in the UK are now in the process of developing and establishing focal therapy programmes and it is important that we as a group remain at the forefront in both clinical and research terms.
The following have been elected onto the HIFU User Group committee:
Manit Arya (Chairman)
Hashim Ahmed (Vice-chairman)
Tim Larner (Secretary)
Richard Hindley (Treasurer)
The following have been elected onto the Registry Oversight Committee:
Hashim Ahmed (lead)
We will in the near future be entering our data from approx. 2000 patients from the UCLH database onto this new Registry and I would encourage you all to do likewise, not only for the purposes of future audit and research, but importantly also to be NICE compliant.
We as a group will also need to discuss, develop and publish national guidelines for current and future HIFU users.
The next meeting of the HIFU User Group will be at the international “Focal Therapy for Prostate Cancer – principles, evidence and treatment modalities” conference – this will be held at the Royal College of Surgeons, London on the 10th April 2014. I would encourage you all to register early for this as we have an international faculty and the meeting is likely to be very popular.
In the interim I will send out prospective dates that HIFU User Committee could meet.
Chairman HIFU User Group
